Couples Intensive Sessions

Glass Door

Intensive Sessions are a great option for couples who want to jump start change in their relationship, who travel often, or have a variable schedule that makes committing to a regular therapy time difficult.

Having a dedicated and supportive container for working through the stuck places in your relationship will allow you to make significant progress that could otherwise take months or years.

Participating in intensive sessions will require you to be open to thinking differently, using new tools, and committing to doing something different than you have done before for your relationship.

My
Approach

The Developmental Model Graduate Badge

The Developmental Model for Couples Therapy

The Developmental Model is a well-respected and award winning approach to couples therapy, and I am a Graduate of The Developmental Model of Couples Therapy Training under Ellyn Bader Ph.D. at The Couples Institute.

More importantly, I have seen the concepts of this model create change very quickly in my client's relationships (I also use these concepts in my own relationships). I will guide you in reflecting on your stage of development, identifying ways to bring your authentic self to the relationship, and learning how to experience empathy with your partner.

You will hear much more about this model if you work with me, but in a nutshell, we will

  • Work with the stages of Differentiation in your relationship to combat “walking on eggshells”, feeling like you always give in or collapse into what your partner wants, living in silos away from each other, or constantly being in conflict

  • Use Attachment theory to re-create feeling welcome in your relationship, without constant stalemates or rugged individualism

  • Practice experiential methods based in Neuroscience to help you tolerate or better understand the triggers in your relationship

The Developmental Model lends itself to many tools that you will have access to after our first session.

A 20-minute consultation will give us time to discuss your hopes for your intensive sessions and to ask questions about my approach.

Couples Intensive Sessions FAQs

01

How do you schedule couples intensives?

I split the intensive into two 3-hour "mini-intensive" sessions that can be scheduled as follows:

  • The 48-hour Intensive - held on a Thursday & Friday afternoon or evening

  • The 1-week Intensive - held two Thursdays in a row in the afternoon or evening

I will help determine which option may be best for your relationship in our initial consultation.

02

What will the focus of our Couples Intensive Sessions be?

Focus of Session 1:

  • The Developmental Stages in Your Relationship

  • The Brain's Need for Connection & Strategies for Real Life

Focus of Session 2:

  • Working with Your Part of the Relationship Struggles

  • Practicing Differentiation

03

What if we still need help after our intensive sessions?

At the end of our sessions, I will be happy to share my understanding of what would be most supportive for you moving forward.

Many couples decide to continue working longer term through specific topics that have been difficult over the years or to move into work on  their sex life & intimacy

04

Is this worth the cost?

Your investment in these intensive sessions will shy in comparison to maintaining long term couples therapy, a separation, or divorce proceedings. Not to mention the benefit of swiftly lessening the amount of suffering you may have been experiencing without the insight and knowledge you will obtain.
